Abstract
An insert device for a pipe joint includes an annular body formed of a body material. The annular body has a spline portion and a spline connected to the insert device and movable in a radial direction relative to an axis of the annular body. The spline is connected to the spline portion of the annular body by one or more frangible connections that, when broken, permit the spline to expand and contract radially relative to the annular body while remaining attached to the annular body.

An insert device for a pipe joint, the insert device comprising:
- an annular body formed of a body material and having a spline portion;
- and
- a spline connected to the insert device and movable in a radial direction relative to an axis of the annular body,
- wherein the spline is connected to the spline portion of the annular body by one or more frangible connections that, when broken, permit the spline to expand and contract radially relative to the annular body while remaining attached to the annular body.
