Abstract
A system for inspecting a tubular may comprise an electromagnetic (EM) logging tool and information handling system. The EM logging tool may further include a mandrel, one or more sensor pads attached to the mandrel by one or more extendable arms, and one or more partial saturation eddy current sensors disposed on each of the one or more sensor pads.
Claims20
A downhole tubular inspection tool, comprising:
- a tool body configured for lowering through a downhole tubular on a conveyance;
- first and second axial stations disposed along the tool body, each axial station comprising a plurality of sensor pads arranged at different azimuthal positions and disposed on one or more extendable arms of the tool body;
- a partial saturation eddy current (PSEC) module configured to take one or more PSEC measurements, comprising:
- a magnetizer unit;
- and
- at least one PSEC sensors disposed on the tool body;
- at least one proximity sensor disposed on the tool body;
- and
- a mechanism configured to adjust extension of the one or more extendable arms based on data from the PSEC module, the at least one proximity sensor, or both.

A downhole tubular inspection tool, comprising:
- an extendable arm;
- a partial saturation eddy current (PSEC) module comprising a magnetizer unit, wherein the magnetizer unit generates a magnetic field that reduces a magnetic permeability of a downhole tubular;
- a PSEC sensor disposed on the extendable arm and configured to:
- induce an eddy current in the downhole tubular;
- and
- collect response data indicative of metallic wall variations corresponding to changes in the induced eddy current;
- a proximity sensor, wherein the proximity sensor enables control of the extendable arm based on proximity data;
- a directional sensor section configured to collect directional data associated with the tool;
- and
- an information handling system configured to:
- receive the response data, the proximity data, and the directional data;
- control the extendable arm based on the response data, the proximity data, and the directional data;
- and
- generate a visual representation of at least the metallic wall variations.

A method for measuring eccentricities of downhole tubulars, comprising:
- lowering, via a conveyance, a tubular inspection tool into a downhole tubular, the tubular inspection tool comprising an extendable arm and a partial saturation eddy current (PSEC) module;
- generating, via a magnetizer unit of the PSEC module, a magnetic field that reduces a magnetic permeability of the downhole tubular;
- inducing, via at least one PSEC sensor disposed on the extendable arm, an eddy current in the downhole tubular;
- acquiring, via the at least one PSEC sensor, response data indicative of metallic wall variations corresponding to changes in the induced eddy current;
- acquiring, via one or more proximity sensors, standoff data associated with the at least one PSEC sensor;
- acquiring, via a directional sensor section of the tool, directional data associated with the tool;
- communicating at least the standoff data and the directional data to an information handling system;
- and
- generating, as a function of depth and azimuth, a visual representation of the metallic wall variations based on the response data, the standoff data, the directional data, or any combination thereof.
