Abstract
Systems and methods for weather sealing fenestration units configured to be set into a rough opening of a building structure. The fenestration unit may include a frame having a plurality of frame members defining a perimeter where an intersection point between each frame member of the plurality of frame members defines a plurality of corners and each corner of the plurality of corners defines an intersection angle, and at least one corner seal secured to a first corner of the plurality of corners. The at least one corner seal may include a flange portion and a cut-out area defining a first corner seal angle that generally corresponds to a first intersection angle of the first corner of the fenestration unit.
Claims20
A method comprising:
- creating an outline of a fenestration unit on a sheet of material, the outline including a representation of a corner of the fenestration unit;
- and
- forming a corner seal into the sheet of material, wherein the corner seal includes a flange portion and a cut out area defining a corner seal angle that generally corresponds to an angle of the corner of the fenestration unit.
A method of weather sealing a fenestration unit within a rough opening, the fenestration unit including a frame having a plurality of frame members defining a perimeter, wherein an intersection point between each frame member of the plurality of frame members defines a plurality of corners and each corner of the plurality of corners defines an angle, the method comprising:
- securing a first corner seal to a first corner of the plurality of corners, wherein the first corner seal includes a flange portion and a cut out area defining a first corner seal angle that generally corresponds to a first angle of the first corner of the fenestration unit;
- securing a second corner seal to a second corner of the plurality of corners, wherein the second corner seal includes a flange portion and a cut out area defining a second corner seal angle that generally corresponds to a second angle of the second corner of the fenestration unit;
- and
- applying a flashing tape along a portion of the frame including over at least a portion of the first corner seal and a portion of the second corner seal.
A fenestration unit comprising:
- a frame having a plurality of frame members defining a perimeter, wherein an intersection point between each frame member of the plurality of frame members defines a plurality of corners and each corner of the plurality of corners defines an intersection angle;
- and
- at least one corner seal secured to a first corner of the plurality of corners, the at least one corner seal including a flange portion and a cut-out area defining a first corner seal angle that generally corresponds to a first intersection angle of the first corner of the fenestration unit.
A template for a fenestration unit comprising:
- a schematic of a perimeter of the fenestration unit including a representation of at least one corner of the fenestration unit;
- and
- at least one corner seal positioned proximate to the at least one corner, the corner seal having a flange portion and a cut out area defining a first corner seal angle that generally corresponds to a first angle of the first corner of the fenestration unit.
