A fence pole cover is disclosed having two opposing connector panels disposed in angular relationship to one or more exterior panels. Edges exist on each of the unconnected ends of the connector panels. An edge gap extends between the edges. Applying force to the cover as against a fence pole bracket contracts the connector panel angles to store elastic potential energy in the cover while increasing the edge gap. Increasing the edge gap allows movement of the cover over a bracket width of the bracket, releasing restorative energy and expanding the angles. Release of all of the potential energy is prevented by engagement of the edges with intersections on the bracket. Residual elastic potential energy secures the cover to the fence pole bracket and fence assembly. In another embodiment, the cover attaches directly to the fence pole.
