A decontamination catalyst includes 5 wt. % to 50 wt. % mixed metal oxides, 20 wt. % to 60 wt. % matrix material, and 10 wt. % to 30 wt. % binder, where the mixed metal oxides include iron oxides (FeOx), ZrO2, CeO2, La2O3, CaO, MgO, and ZnO. A process for producing a decontaminated plastic derived oil contacting a plastic derived oil stream with the decontamination catalyst at a reaction temperature of from 350° C. to 500° C. to produce a decontaminated plastic derived oil. Contacting the plastic derived oil stream with the decontamination catalyst causes the halogen-containing compounds in the plastic derived oil stream to react to form hydrocarbons and hydrogen halides, and the hydrogen halides react further to form metal halides on surfaces of the mixed metal oxides. The decontaminated plastic derived oil has a reduced concentration of the halogen-containing compounds compared to the plastic derived oil stream.
A decontamination catalyst for decontaminating a plastic derived oil stream, the decontamination catalyst comprising from 5 wt. % to 50 wt. % mixed metal oxides, from 20 wt. % to 60 wt. % matrix material, and from 10 wt. % to 30 wt. % binder based on the total weight of the decontamination catalyst, where the mixed metal oxides comprise iron oxides (FeOx), zirconia (ZrO2), ceria (CeO2), lanthanum oxide (La2O3), calcium oxide (CaO), magnesium oxide (MgO), and zinc oxide (ZnO).
A process for producing a decontaminated plastic derived oil, the process comprising contacting a plastic derived oil stream with a decontamination catalyst at a reaction temperature of from 350° C. to 500° C. to produce a decontaminated plastic derived oil, where:
