Disclosed herein is a fibrosis treatment containing an ICAM-1 inhibitor. It has been discovered that inhibiting the function of ICAM-1 in tissues that have been affected with fibrosis results in the restoration of the fibrotic tissue to normal tissue and the treatment of fibrosis, and through research, the treatment mechanism was elucidated. The fibrosis treatment containing an ICAM-1 inhibitor can inhibit ICAM-1 mediated signaling, and consequently, suppresses epithelial to mesenchymal transition (EMT) of tissue epithelial cells in which ICAM-1 mediated signaling is involved and/or the accumulation of extracellular matrix in which ICAM-1 mediated signaling is involved. The fibrosis treatment containing an ICAM-1 inhibitor has the therapeutic mechanism of inhibiting the induction of EMT in tissue epithelial cells, preventing the differentiation into myofibroblasts through inhibition of the activity of local fibroblasts, and/or reducing myofibroblasts by directly acting thereon.
An ICAM-1 neutralizing antibody for treating fibrosis.
