Spherical alumina particles able to improve the thermal conductivity of resin compositions formed when kneaded with a resin and able to keep down the viscosity (raising the fluidity) and a method of production of the same, i.e., spherical alumina particles having a D50 by a laser diffraction/scattering method of 0.5 or more and 10.0 μm or less, a particle size distribution, measured by a wet sieving test method, in which 20.0 μm or more particles account for 0.04 wt % or less, a specific surface area, measured by a BET method, of 0.35 m2/g or more and 3.50 m2/g or less, a “tapped bulk density”, prescribed by Japan Industrial Standard JISR1628: 1997, of 1.30 g/cm3 or more and 2.50 g/cm3 or less, and a roundness of 0.90 or more and a method of production of the same.
Spherical alumina particles having
A method of production of spherical alumina particles having a D50 by a laser diffraction/scattering method of 0.5 or more and 10.0 μm or less, a particle size distribution, measured by a wet sieving test method, in which 20.0 μm or more particles account for 0.04 wt % or less, a specific surface area, measured by a BET method, of 0.35 m2/g or more and 3.50 m2/g or less, a “tapped bulk density”, prescribed by Japan Industrial Standard JISR1628:1997, of 1.30 g/cm3 or more and 2.50 g/cm3 or less, and a roundness of 0.90 or more characterized by having a step of running at least one of alumina, boehmite, or aluminum hydroxide through a flame to make it melt, then cooling it to thereby make it spheroidal and a step of classification jointly using a precision wind classifier and sieve after the spheroidization step.
