Abstract
A method for producing synthetic graphite involves irradiating a carbon source material with an ultrafast pulsed laser operating at parameters effective to transform the carbon source material to synthetic graphite typically as a conductive graphitic film or layer. The carbon source material can be processed printed circuit board (PCB) material so that the non-metallic fraction thereof can be recycled.
Claims20
A method for producing synthetic graphite, comprising irradiating a carbon source material with a pulsed laser operating at laser parameters effective to transform at least a portion of the carbon source material to graphitic carbon structure.
A method of treating a printed circuit board containing epoxy polymer as a constituent, comprising a) comminuting the printed circuit board to produce particulates, b) consolidating the particulates to form a powder compact, and c) irradiating a surface of the compact with a pulsed laser operated in a manner to transform at least a portion of the compact to a conductive graphitic carbon structure.
