Abstract
A unit storage facility and associated method. The facility comprises a plurality of displaceable and releasably connectable structures, each structure being configured to support at least one unit. The facility further comprises a crane having a supporting structure and a crane body displaceably connected to the supporting structure. The crane body comprises a lifting member, the lifting member being operable to displace and releasably connect or disconnect one or more structures of the plurality of structures.
Claims26
A unit storage facility, comprising:
- a plurality of displaceable and releasably connectable structures, each structure being configured to support at least one unit and comprising a frame defining a first side and an opposed second side, a plurality of receptacles defined in the second side of the frame and a plurality of connectors disposed on the first side of the frame, a connector being receivable in a receptacle of another structure and configured to allow each structure to releasably connect with another structure and to allow the plurality of structures to be stacked in adjacent layers oriented in different directions to form at least one stack;
- and
- a crane having a supporting structure and a crane body displaceably connected to the supporting structure, the crane body comprising a lifting member, the lifting member being operable to displace and releasably connect or disconnect one or more structures of the plurality of structures in the at least one stack.

A unit storage method, comprising:
- storing at least one unit in each of a plurality of displaceable and releasably connectable structures, each structure being configured to support the at least one unit and comprising a frame defining a first side and an opposed second side, a plurality of receptacles defined in the second side of the frame and a plurality of connectors disposed on the first side of the frame, a connector being receivable in a receptacle of another structure and configured to allow each structure to releasably connect with another structure and to allow the plurality of structures to be stacked in adjacent layers oriented in different directions to form at least one stack;
- and
- operating a crane to displace and releasably connect or disconnect one or more structures of the plurality of structures in the at least one stack, the crane having a supporting structure and a crane body displaceably connected to the supporting structure, the crane body comprising a lifting member, the lifting member being operable to displace and releasably connect or disconnect the one or more structures of the plurality of structures in the at least one stack.
