The article carrier comprises at least one primary panel forming a handle structure. The at least one primary panel comprises at least one, at least two, or more article retention structures for engaging an article so as to provide a top gripping article carrier. The at least one article retention structure comprises a receiving opening having or defined by a boundary including a first edge and second opposing edge and a longitudinal dimension defined therebetween. The second edge is defined by a hinged connection between at least one support tooth and the at least one primary panel from which it is formed. The at least one article retention structure comprises a center disposed on a notional line bisecting the at least one article retention structure in a longitudinal direction and midway between the first and second edges. The at least one article retention structure comprises a region defining a maximum transverse dimension. The maximum width region is disposed between the center of the at least one article retention structure and the first edge of the at least one article retention structure.
