Abstract
A parking assistance method for assisting parking of an own vehicle at a target parking position, in a case where no parking position candidate existing in surroundings of the own vehicle and serving as a candidate of the target parking position can be detected, displays, when a factor preventing detection of the parking position candidate is an environmental factor, the environmental factor being a factor dependent on an environment of the own vehicle, the environmental factor on a display device and, when a factor preventing detection of the parking position candidate is a user factor, the user factor being a factor dependent on a user, the user factor on the display device.

A parking assistance method for assisting parking of an own vehicle at a target parking position, the parking assistance method comprising:
- storing data representing a relative positional relationship between a target object existing in surroundings of a target parking position and a target parking position in a storage device as learned target object data in advance;
- detecting a surrounding target object, the surrounding target object being a target object existing in surroundings of the own vehicle;
- detecting a parking position candidate existing in surroundings of the own vehicle and serving as a candidate of the target parking position, based on the learned target object data of a target object existing in surroundings of the own vehicle and the surrounding target object;
- and
- in a case where no parking position candidate existing in surroundings of the own vehicle can be detected, displaying, when a factor preventing detection of the parking position candidate is an environmental factor, the environmental factor being a factor dependent on an environment of the own vehicle, the environmental factor on a display device and, when a factor preventing detection of the parking position candidate is a user factor, the user factor being a factor dependent on a user, the user factor on the display device.

A parking assistance device configured to assist parking of an own vehicle at a target parking position, the parking assistance device comprising:
- a storage device;
- a display device;
- and
- a controller configured to:
- store data representing a relative positional relationship between a target object existing in surroundings of a target parking position and a target parking position in a storage device as learned target object data in advance;
- detect a surrounding target object, the surrounding target object being a target object existing in surroundings of the own vehicle;
- detect a parking position candidate existing in surroundings of the own vehicle and serving as a candidate of the target parking position, based on the learned target object data of a target object existing in surroundings of the own vehicle and the surrounding target object;
- and
- in a case where no parking position candidate existing in surroundings of the own vehicle can be detected, display, when a factor preventing detection of the parking position candidate is an environmental factor, the environmental factor being a factor dependent on an environment of the own vehicle, the environmental factor on the display device and, when a factor preventing detection of the parking position candidate is a user factor, the user factor being a factor dependent on a user, the user factor on the display device.
