Abstract
A method of measuring a non-pneumatic tire is provided that has a code located outward in the radial direction from a support structure. Visual data is obtained from the tire and the code, and from this visual data a length of the code is determined. A length of a position of the code is determined from a point located radially outward from a majority of the support structure radial length to the code. A worn tread surface to code length is determined using the visual data. A worn thickness in the radial direction is calculated by adding the length of the position of the code to the worn tread surface to code length.
Claims15
A method of measuring a non-pneumatic tire, comprising:
- providing a non-pneumatic tire that has a central axis, a support structure that has a support structure radial length, a shear beam, and a tread that has a worn tread surface, wherein the shear beam is located outward from the support structure in a radial direction, wherein the non-pneumatic tire has a circumferential direction;
- providing a code on the non-pneumatic tire that is located outward in the radial direction from the support structure;
- obtaining visual data from the tire and the code;
- determining from the visual data a length of the code that extends in the radial direction;
- determining from the visual data a length of a position of the code that extends in the radial direction, wherein the length of the position of the code is measured in the radial direction from a point located radially outward from a majority of the support structure radial length to the code;
- determining a worn tread surface to code length in the radial direction from the visual data using the length of the code;
- and
- calculating a worn thickness in the radial direction by adding the length of the position of the code to the worn tread surface to code length.
