Abstract
A method of producing a porous scaffold for solid desiccant is provided. The method includes dissolving a scaffold precursor and dispersing desiccant particles in a solvent to create a mixture, placing a substrate in the solvent with the mixture, encouraging the scaffold precursor and the desiccant particles to collect on surfaces of the substrate and to grow crystals therefrom, removing the solvent while leaving the scaffold precursor as a porous scaffold on which the desiccant particles are supported and at least partially exposed and consolidating the porous scaffold with the desiccant particles supported thereon and at least partially exposed.

A method of producing a porous scaffold for solid desiccant, the method comprising:
- dissolving a scaffold precursor and dispersing desiccant particles in a solvent to create a mixture;
- placing a substrate in the solvent with the mixture;
- encouraging the scaffold precursor and the desiccant particles to collect on surfaces of the substrate and to grow crystals therefrom;
- removing the solvent while leaving the scaffold precursor as a porous scaffold on which the desiccant particles are supported and at least partially exposed;
- and
- consolidating the porous scaffold with the desiccant particles supported thereon and at least partially exposed.
A method of producing a porous scaffold for solid desiccant on a heat exchanger, the method comprising:
- dissolving a scaffold precursor and dispersing desiccant particles in a solvent to create a mixture;
- placing a surface of the heat exchanger in the solvent with the mixture;
- reducing respective temperatures of the surface of the heat exchanger and the solvent to encourage the scaffold precursor and the desiccant particles to collect on the surface of the heat exchanger and to grow crystals therefrom;
- removing the solvent while leaving the scaffold precursor as a porous scaffold supported on the surface of the heat exchanger and on which the desiccant particles are supported and at least partially exposed;
- and
- consolidating the porous scaffold with the desiccant particles supported thereon and at least partially exposed.
A heat exchanger for a dehumidification system, the heat exchanger comprising:
- tubes;
- fins disposed in thermal contact with the tubes;
- a porous scaffold supported on respective surfaces of at least one of the tubes and the fins;
- and
- desiccant particles supported on and at least partially exposed from the porous scaffold.
