Abstract
A tissue or organ replacement includes a tissue-engineered construct that includes one or more bio ink compositions and a biocompatible support structure. The support structure includes one or more external supports, one or more internal supports, or combinations thereof of a biocompatible material,. The composition has a three-dimensional (3D) shape, and the biocompatible material is present in an amount of about 1% to about 100% by weight of the biocompatible support structure.
Claims20
A tissue or organ replacement composition to be attached to or implanted in a patient, the tissue or organ replacement composition comprising:
- a tissue-engineered construct comprising a bio ink composition;
- and
- a biocompatible support structure comprising one or more supports of a biocompatible material;
- wherein the one or more supports include a plurality of cavities and/or a plurality of apertures;
- wherein the one or more supports at least partially encapsulate the bio ink composition and/or a further bio ink composition within the plurality of cavities and/or within the plurality of apertures;
- wherein the tissue or organ replacement composition and the one or more internal supports have a three-dimensional (3D) shape;
- and
- wherein the biocompatible material is present in an amount of 1% to 100% by weight of the biocompatible support structure.
A method of making a tissue or organ replacement composition to be attached to or implanted in a patient, the method comprising:
- fabricating a biocompatible support structure;
- fabricating a tissue-engineered construct and curing the tissue-engineered construct;
- wherein the replacement composition has a 3D shape;
- wherein the tissue-engineered construct comprises a bio ink composition;
- wherein the biocompatible support structure includes one or more supports of a biocompatible material, wherein the one or more supports include a plurality of cavities and/or a plurality of apertures, and wherein the one or more supports at least partially encapsulate the bio ink and/or a further bio ink within the plurality of cavities and/or within the plurality of apertures;
- and
- wherein the biocompatible material is present in an amount of about 1% to about 100% by weight of the biocompatible support structure.
A tissue or organ replacement composition to be attached to or implanted in a patient, the tissue or organ replacement composition comprising:
- a tissue-engineered construct including a bio ink composition;
- and
- a biocompatible support structure including a biocompatible material;
- wherein the biocompatible support structure includes a plurality of cavities and/or a plurality of apertures, wherein the biocompatible support structure at least partially encapsulates the bio ink composition and/or a further bio ink composition within the plurality of cavities and/or within the plurality of apertures;
- wherein the tissue or organ replacement composition and the biocompatible support structure have a three-dimensional (3D) shape;
- and
- wherein the biocompatible material is present in an amount of 1% to 100% by weight of the biocompatible support structure.
