In particular, the invention provides compositions comprising one or more ruthenium based-agents for one or more of inhibiting venom related procoagulant activity, inhibiting venom related phospholipase A2 (PLA2), and/or inhibiting venom related thrombus generation, and related methods for treating, ameliorating and preventing the toxic effects of venom poisoning in a subject suffering from or at risk of suffering from venom poisoning.
Claims6

- tricarbonyldichlororuthenium(II) dimer (CORM-2), and
- ruthenium(III) chloride (RuCl3)
- wherein the pharmaceutical composition is synthetic and formulated for therapeutic administration to a human subject, and
- wherein administration of the pharmaceutical composition to the human subject results in inhibition of venom-mediated coagulopathy and at least one of venom related procoagulant activity, inhibition of venom related PLA2 activity, and/or inhibition of venom related thrombus generation.
