Abstract
The invention relates to a method for making unilamellar vesicles using Pickering emulsions of aqueous droplets comprising lipids in oil wherein the Pickering emulsions is stabilized by amphiphilic nanoparticles. The invention further relates to the use of the method of the invention to form synthetic cells.
Claims15
A method for making Unilamellar Vesicles comprising the steps of:
- a. forming a Pickering emulsion of aqueous droplets in oil wherein said oil comprises amphiphilic nanoparticles and wherein said aqueous droplets, (i) are stabilized by a layer of said amphiphilic nanoparticles at the droplet surface and (ii) comprise lipids within the droplets' inner space;
- and,
- b. incubating said Pickering emulsion for said lipids to coalesce into a lipid bilayer at the interface between the aqueous phase and said layer of amphiphilic nanoparticles, thereby making Unilamellar Vesicles.
