Abstract

A liposome comprising a core and at least one lipid bilayer which comprises a glycerolipid of formula (I): wherein the core comprises a hydrophilic anticancer or antimicrobial agent or another hydrophilic drug or the lipid bilayer comprises a hydrophobic anticancer or antimicrobial agent or another hydrophobic drug. A gel of the glycerolipid of formula (I) includes glycerolipid molecules forming lipid nanotubes. Pharmaceutical compositions comprise said liposome or gel and at least a pharmaceutical acceptable excipient which are useful as antimicrobials (for instance as antibacterial or as antiviral) or in the treatment of cancer and/or in the prevention or reduction of cancer metastasis and a process for the preparation of a liposome and a process for the preparation of a gel comprising the glycerolipid of formula (I).
