A cosmetic composition comprising:
- a) at least one compound chosen from N,N-dicarboxymethylglutamic acid, salts thereof, solvates thereof, solvates of the salts thereof, or mixtures thereof;
- b) at least one direct dye;
- c) at least one cationic polysaccharide;
- and
- d) at least one non-cationic polysaccharide.

A method for dyeing keratin fibers, comprising applying to the keratin fibers a composition comprising:
- a) at least one compound chosen from N,N-dicarboxymethylglutamic acid, salts thereof, solvates thereof, solvates of the salts thereof, or mixtures thereof;
- b) at least one direct dye;
- c) at least one cationic polysaccharide;
- and
- d) at least one non-cationic polysaccharide.
