An adapter for securing a second object to a first object includes a curved band defining an opening and having an inner surface and an outer surface. A step-down portion extends circumferentially about the outer surface of the curved band and is configured to receive the second object. A plurality of grooves are disposed on the inner surface of the curved band and extend from a front circumferential side to a rear circumferential side. The curved band is configured to fit over a generally cylindrical portion of the first object to secure the adapter thereto. In some embodiments, one or more grooves receive ribs on the first object to resist relative rotation, and one or more lips or tabs resist axial displacement. The adapter may be used with a tree-tapping tool assembly mounted to a handheld drill, wherein the adapter is interposed between the drill and an adjustable ring.
