MODULAR POWER CONVERTER with modulator connector FOR SERIES CONNECTED BATTERIES

An energy conversion system including:

• a power system configured to generate a first input;
• a first converter switching cell configured to convert the first input into a first output;
• a second converter switching cell configured to convert the first input into a second output,
• a modular connector between the first converter switching cell and the second converter switching cell, the modular connector configured to switch between a first connection state and a second connection state;
• and
• a transformer configured to combine the first output and the second output to form a combined output,
• wherein the first connection state connects a first-port of the first converter switching cell and a first-port of the second converter switching cell in series,
• the second connection state connects the first-port of the first converter switching cell and the first-port of the second converter switching cell in parallel,
• the first input is at least one of a direct current (DC) or an alternating current (AC), and
• the first output, the second output, and the combined output are AC.

A battery energy storage system (BESS) comprising:

• a battery power supply configured to discharge direct current (DC) as a DC input;
• and
• an energy conversion system, the energy conversion system including a first converter switching cell configured to convert the DC input into a first output, a second converter switching cell configured to convert the DC input into a second output, a modular connector between the first converter switching cell and the second converter switching cell, and a transformer configured to combine the first output and the second output to form a combined output,
• wherein the modular connector is configured to switch between a first connection state and a second connection state,
• wherein the first connection state connects a DC port of the first converter switching cell and a DC port of the second converter switching cell in series,
• the second connection state connects the DC port of the first converter switching cell and the DC port of the second converter switching cell in parallel, and
• the first output, the second output, and the combined output are alternating current (AC).
