Abstract
One or more embodiments of the present disclosure describe an RFID-enabled roofing accessory. The roofing accessory may include a roofing shingle, such as an asphalt roofing shingle. The roofing accessory may include an RFID tag incorporated thereon. The RFID tag may be adhered to the roofing accessories.
Claims20
A roofing shingle comprising:
- an asphalt shingle;
- wherein the asphalt shingle is installed at a configurable location on a roof;
- and
- at least one radio-frequency identification (RFID) tag configured to emit radio-frequency signals having a signal power sufficient to penetrate the roofing shingle so as to enable an RFID reader device to communicate with the RFID tag through the roofing shingle;
- wherein the RFID tag is adhered to an exterior surface of the asphalt shingle, the roofing shingle being configured to be installed on a roof;
- wherein the RFID tag is configured to be read, at the configurable location, using the RFID reader device, comprising:
- generating at least one reader RF signal at one or more frequencies to read the RFID tag;
- detecting at least one return RF signal from the RFID tag;
- wherein the at least one return RF signal carries tag data comprising at least one tag identifier;
- and
- wherein the RFID reader device is configured to record in a database the tag data based at least in part on the at least one return RF signal.

A roofing system comprising:
- a plurality of asphalt roofing shingles, at least one asphalt roofing shingle of the asphalt roofing shingles being installed at at least one configurable location on a roof;
- at least one radio-frequency identification (RFID) tag configured to emit radio-frequency signals having a signal power sufficient to penetrate the at least one asphalt roofing shingle so as to enable an RFID reader device to communicate with the RFID tag through the at least one asphalt roofing shingle;
- wherein the at least one RFID tag is adhered to an exterior surface of the at least one asphalt roofing shingle, the at least one asphalt roofing shingle being configured to be installed on a roof;
- wherein the at least one RFID tag is configured to be read, at the configurable location, using the RFID reader device, comprising:
- generating at least one reader RF signal at one or more frequencies to read the at least one RFID tag;
- detecting at least one return RF signal from the at least one RFID tag;
- wherein the at least one return RF signal carries tag data comprising at least one tag identifier;
- and
- wherein the RFID reader device is configured to record in a database the tag data based at least in part on the at least one return RF signal.
6 more elements
A method comprising:
- installing an asphalt shingle;
- wherein the asphalt shingle is installed at a configurable location on a roof;
- and
- wherein the asphalt shingle comprises at least one radio-frequency identification (RFID) tag configured to emit radio-frequency signals having a signal power sufficient to penetrate the roofing shingle so as to enable an RFID reader device to communicate with the RFID tag through the roofing shingle;
- wherein the RFID tag is adhered to an exterior surface of the asphalt shingle, the roofing shingle being configured to be installed on a roof;
- wherein the RFID tag is configured to be read, at the configurable location, using the RFID reader device, comprising:
- generating at least one reader RF signal at one or more frequencies to read the RFID tag;
- detecting at least one return RF signal from the RFID tag;
- wherein the at least one return RF signal carries tag data comprising at least one tag identifier;
- and
- wherein the RFID reader device is configured to record in a database the tag data based at least in part on the at least one return RF signal.
