Gps based location determination using accurately mapped polygonal areas

A system comprising:

• one or more processors;
• and
• one or more non-transitory computer-readable media storing computer executable instructions that, when executed, cause the one or more processors to perform operations comprising:
• receiving a wireless signal transmitted from a mobile device, the wireless signal including a reported location of the mobile device and an identification of the mobile device;
• accessing a pre-established mapping of a plurality of substantially adjacent polygonal areas associated with an establishment, wherein boundaries of the plurality of polygonal areas are established at a spatial resolution finer than a GPS-based position reporting error;
• generating, based on the reported location, a bounded geometric figure on the pre-established mapping that encompasses the reported location and bounds a set of predetermined-as-more-probable true locations (MPTLs) of the mobile device;
• determining respective overlaps of the bounded geometric figure with one or more of the plurality of polygonal areas;
• computing respective overlap scores for the one or more of the plurality of polygonal areas based on the respective overlaps, wherein an individual overlap score is indicative of a relative likelihood that a corresponding polygonal area is occupied by the mobile device;
• and
• identifying, based on the respective overlap scores, at least one candidate polygonal area as a most likely location of the mobile device.

One or more non-transitory computer-readable media storing computer executable instructions that, when executed, cause one or more processors to perform operations comprising:

• receiving a wireless signal transmitted from a mobile device, the wireless signal including a reported location of the mobile device and an identification of the mobile device;
• accessing a pre-established mapping of a plurality of substantially adjacent polygonal areas associated with an establishment, wherein boundaries of the plurality of polygonal areas are established at a spatial resolution finer than a GPS-based position reporting error;
• generating, based on the reported location, a bounded geometric figure on the pre-established mapping that encompasses the reported location and bounds a set of predetermined-as-more-probable true locations (MPTLs) of the mobile device;
• determining respective overlaps of the bounded geometric figure with one or more of the plurality of polygonal areas;
• computing respective overlap scores for the one or more of the plurality of polygonal areas based on the respective overlaps, wherein an individual overlap score is indicative of a relative likelihood that a corresponding polygonal area is occupied by the mobile device;
• and
• identifying, based on the respective overlap scores, at least one candidate polygonal area as a most likely location of the mobile device.
