Abstract
Systems and methods for thermal radiators utilizing selective long-wave infrared emitters and materials therefore are provided. The thermal radiators and provided materials are configured for emittance in various spectrum ranges including within the 8-13 μm atmospheric window. The provided selective long-wave infrared emitters can be disposed on various surfaces such as vertical and horizontal building surfaces, walls and roofs, for thermoregulation with limited exposure to the sky and the surrounding environments. Designs and methods for fabricating and integrating the provided materials and emitters into various structures are also described.
Claims17
A method of passive radiative cooling and thermoregulation of an object, comprising,
- applying a selective long-wave infrared (LWIR) emitter onto at least one surface of the object having at least a partial view of the sky and a partial view of its terrestrial environment, wherein the at least one surface of the object is vertically oriented;
- wherein the emitter has an average emittance greater than 0.7 in LWIR wavelengths range between 8 μm and 13 μm;
- and
- wherein the emitter has an average emittance less than 0.4 in a first wavelength range between 2.5 μm and 8 μm, and in a second wavelength range between 13 μm and 30 μm.
