Abstract
The present invention is a detailing-building-framing square or template that is used for both measuring and marking. Various tables and charts may be used to quickly reference the triangle needed to square a house when snapping, what size trimmers to use in the garage doors and a plurality of scribe lines to quickly get down all the lines needed when detailing a building. The present invention is designed to attach a tape measure for increased measurement use. Angle markings may also be included in the present invention.
Claims23
A tool for layout snapping, framing, and detailing buildings, comprising:
- A planar plate with two opposing faces in a general “L” shape, with a bottom portion with six outermost straight edges, a top portion, a front face portion and a back face portion, a right side edge, a left side edge, a top edge, a bottom edge, an upper edge of the horizontal portion of said “L” shape, at least two cut-out portions in said bottom portion, and at least one rail on said bottom portion outermost edge generally orthogonal to said planar plate;
- Each said outermost edge dimensions each being a predetermined length corresponding with different common measurements of structure building components;
- Said cut-out portions each having at least one straight edge and corresponding to common measurements of structure building components;
- Said straight edges designed for marking building materials;
- Said rail for placement against a building material straight edge;
- Said cut out portions, said right side edge and said left side edge positioned and marked to measure 0.5 inches, 1.5 inches, 2 inches, 3 inches, and 5.5 inches;
- Said left side edge of said “L” shape measuring 7.25 inches;
- Said upper edge of said horizontal portion of said “L” shape measuring 2 inches;
- Said front portion having reference marks for framing and detailing;
- Said back portion having reference marks for framing and detailing.
The tool of claim wherein said markings further comprise centerline marks at 0.75 inches, 2.25 inches, and 2.75 inches designed for finding the center point of a stud.
A tool for layout framing and detailing buildings, comprising:
- means for marking and spacing adjacent structural members a predetermined distance apart defining a cavity therebetween;
- means for marking and spacing adjacent structural members in predetermined configurations;
- means for holding the tool against construction lumber materials when marking;
- means for locating a predetermined position of a centerpoint for standard construction lumber materials;
- means for locating predetermined angles using a pivot point of said tool;
- means for referencing right triangle ratios and measurements;
- means for referencing trimmer stud ratios and sizes.
