Abstract
Process for producing renewable hydrocarbons suitable for use in fuel applications from a renewable feedstock. The feedstock includes at least one lipophilic phosphorus compound, which is difficult to remove therefrom by known purification methods. The amount of this “difficult to remove” phosphorus is determined and the result thereof is used for selecting a suitable purification to which the feedstock is then subjected. The purified renewable feedstock can then be hydrotreated catalytically.

A process for producing renewable hydrocarbons suitable for use in fuel applications from a renewable feedstock containing at least one or more lipophilic phosphorus compound(s), said process comprising:
- (i) providing the renewable feedstock, wherein a sum amount of the lipophilic phosphorus compound(s) calculated as elemental phosphorus is more than 2 wppm, of a total feedstock weight;
- (ii) subjecting the renewable feedstock to at least one pretreatment to obtain a pretreated renewable feedstock, wherein a sum amount of the lipophilic phosphorus compound(s) calculated as elemental phosphorus in the pretreated renewable feedstock is lower than that of the renewable feedstock in step (i), and/or less than 2 wppm, and/or less than 1.5 ppm, of the pretreated feedstock weight;
- and
- (iii) subjecting the pretreated renewable feedstock to at least one catalytic hydrotreating step to obtain the renewable hydrocarbons.
A method of a separation and analysis in catalytic production of renewable hydrocarbons to provide data on at least one lipophilic phosphorus compound(s) in a renewable feedstock, the method comprising:
- selecting, based on said separation and analysis, a pretreatment capable of reducing the lipophilic phosphorus compound(s) content;
- and
- subjecting the renewable feedstock to the selected pretreatment to provide a pretreated renewable feedstock.
