Abstract
Provided is a compound that achieves a good balance between the LO· scavenging ability and the LOO· scavenging ability. The compound of the present invention or a salt thereof is represented by the following formula (1). In the formula (1), R1 and R2 may be the same or different and are each independently a hydrogen atom or an alkyl group, R3 is —OR4 or —NHR5, R4 is a sec-butyl group, a tert-butyl group, or an iso-butyl group, and R5 is a sec-butyl group, a tert-butyl group, or an iso-butyl group.

A method for decreasing oxidation in a cell, the method comprising administering an antioxidant to the cell, wherein
- the antioxidant is represented by the following formula (1A) or a salt thereof:
- where, in the formula (1A),
- R1 and R2 may be the same or different and are each independently a hydrogen atom, an alkyl group, or an acyl group,
- R3 is —OR4 or NHR5,
- R4 is an alkyl group, and
- R5 is a hydrogen atom or an alkyl group.
The method according to claim 26, wherein the method decrease oxidation in a subject in need thereof, and the antioxidant is administered to the subject.
