Abstract
A method for producing metal oxide nanoparticles having high oxygen-defected surfaces and enhanced superoxide dismutase (SOD) activity, such as cerium oxide nanoparticles (CNPs) and hybrids thereof, which are useful for a variety of biomedical applications. The method is optimized such that the aging period of nanoparticle formation is reduced from the conventional aging period of weeks to a few days. This optimization enables industrial production of metal oxide nanoparticles with increased efficiency. Cerium oxide nanoparticles (CNPs) and hybrids thereof produced by the described method can be used for a variety of biomedical applications.
Claims60
A method for producing metal oxide nanoparticles comprising:
- forming a solution by adding an oxidizing agent to an aqueous metal oxide;
- and
- heating the solution formed for a preselected time at a preselected temperature in a preselected aeration environment.
