Plastic container having an interactive pcr channel structure and moveable base

A heat-set beverage container including about 25% of PCR or more, comprising:

• a base;
• a sidewall extending from and integrally formed with the base;
• an upper region extending from the sidewall and defining an upper opening, wherein the beverage container comprises a longitudinal axis extending in a direction from the base to the upper opening;
• and
• a plurality of substantially continuous channels placed along a majority of the labelable sidewall and having a first as molded channel configuration formed in and extending around a circumference of the sidewall, wherein the channels are configured to have a depth and a height, wherein the depth exceeds the height, and the channels accommodate vacuum compression and resist mechanical deformation in the radial or transverse direction of the beverage container;
• and
• wherein the base includes an outer wall portion extending from the lower end of the sidewall to a plurality of discontinuous footed contact surfaces for supporting the container and a plurality of webs extending from the sidewall radially along the base portion toward the longitudinal axis in a transverse direction, wherein the base includes a push up portion comprising at a pair of radii and a pair of controlling angles, wherein at least one of the webs defines a web surface that is closer to the finish than an adjoining plurality of footed contact surfaces and comprises a generally inwardly directed surface from the sidewall between the plurality of footed contact surfaces and comprises a compound curve, wherein the base comprises a web surface area to overall non-web surface area greater than 1:1, further wherein the base includes inner wall portions extending within a perimeter defined by the contact surfaces;
• and
• wherein after hot filling and capping and prior to cooling the sidewall and base are configured to move interactively and separately in differential amounts under changing pressure conditions, wherein the sidewall is configured to expand longitudinally from a first unpressurized configuration having a first height to a second pressurized configuration having a second height, wherein the second height is greater than the first height and the channels provide for reducing the effects of heated overpressure in the container, and the base portion is configured to interactively move to a different extent longitudinally from a first unpressurized configuration wherein the push up has a first distance above the contact surface to a second pressurized configuration wherein the push up has a second distance above the contact surface, wherein the second distance is less than the first distance;
• and
• wherein the plurality of ribs in the sidewall are configured to increase the internal volume and height of the container when moving from the first unpressurized configuration to the second pressurized configuration and reduce the amount of internal pressure applied to the base from a heated liquid within the sealed container, wherein an upper portion of each rib is configured to move longitudinally away from a lower portion of each rib to increase the distance between the upper and lower portions and increase the longitudinal height of each rib;
• and
• wherein the base is configured to move under increased internal pressure and heat longitudinally away from the neck finish and continuous channels in order to further reduce internal pressure and reduce heat stress induced deformation, and wherein a thermal pressure exists within the container;
• and
• wherein the amount of longitudinal movement of the channels is different to the longitudinal movement of the base.
