Method for operating a comfort system of a motor vehicle, wherein the comfort system has a footrest system with a footrest for supporting the feet of a user, wherein the motor vehicle has a supporting structure which forms a stepped offset between a lower supporting plate and an upper supporting plate in a longitudinal direction, wherein, in the context of a comfort adjustment, the footrest is adjusted by means of a footrest adjustment system from a parked position on the lower supporting plate, over said stepped offset and into an operating position on the upper supporting plate, with the footrest changing inclination with respect to the longitudinal direction.
