Abstract
A new supported bimetallic catalyst including copper and cobalt on a zirconium dioxide support, of formula CoCu/ZrO2, and the use of the catalyst in the implementation of a method of preparation of ethylene glycol from an oxalate compound by a hydrogenation reaction of the oxalate compound by hydrogen (H2) to obtain ethylene glycol. Also, the use of the catalyst in the depolymerization of biomass.

A method of preparation of ethylene glycol comprising:
- a hydrogenation step by hydrogen of an oxalate compound to ethylene glycol, in the presence of a supported bimetallic catalyst comprising copper and cobalt on a zirconium dioxide support, of formula CoCu/ZrO2.
A supported bimetallic catalyst comprising copper and cobalt on a zirconium dioxide support, of formula CoCu/ZrO2,
- wherein said catalyst has a surface area, analysed by BET, from 1 to 75 m2/g or from 1 to 50 m2/g.
