Abstract
Electrochemical degradation systems for halogenated compounds are provided, the system including a working electrode, and a nonaqueous solution of an ionic compound and the halogenated compound in an organic solvent, the solution in contact with the working electrode. Methods for degrading a halogenated compound are further provided.
Claims20
An electrochemical degradation system for a halogenated compound, the system comprising:
- a working electrode, to which a current density is applicable;
- and
- a nonaqueous solution of an ionic compound and the halogenated compound in an organic solvent, the solution in contact with the working electrode.
A method for degrading a halogenated compound, comprising:
- applying a current density to a working electrode, the working electrode in contact with a nonaqueous solution of an ionic compound and the halogenated compound in an organic solvent to provide a product solution comprising fluoride anion.
