Abstract
A disinfecting system includes a housing. An ultraviolet light (UV) source is secured to the housing and configured to emit UV light for disinfection of a target. A processor is secured to the housing in communication with the UV light source. The processor is configured to activate the UV light source for a selected amount of time suitable for disinfection of the target.
Claims20
A disinfecting system comprising:
- a housing;
- a movement apparatus coupled to the housing and configured to propel the housing across a surface within an environment;
- a UV light source secured to the housing and configured to emit ultraviolet light for disinfection of surfaces in the environment;
- an image capturing device secured to the housing and configured to capture images of surfaces exposed to the ultraviolet light emitted by the UV light source;
- a separate image capturing device secured to the housing and configured to capture images of the environment;
- and
- a processor configured to:
- (i) compare the captured images of surfaces exposed to the ultraviolet light against images of the environment to determine which surfaces have been exposed to the ultraviolet light and a duration of the exposure;
- (ii) determine whether the ultraviolet light has been effective in sterilizing surfaces in the environment;
- and
- (iii) steer the movement apparatus based on visual information from sensors coupled to the housing.

A method comprising:
- propelling a housing across a surface within an environment using a movement apparatus coupled to the housing;
- emitting ultraviolet light from a UV light source secured to the housing for disinfection of surfaces in the environment;
- capturing, using an image capturing device secured to the housing, images of surfaces exposed to the ultraviolet light emitted by the UV light source;
- capturing, using a separate image capturing device secured to the housing, images of the environment;
- comparing, using a processor, the captured images of surfaces exposed to the ultraviolet light against images of the environment to determine which surfaces have been exposed to the ultraviolet light and a duration of the exposure;
- determining, using the processor, whether the ultraviolet light has been effective in sterilizing surfaces in the environment;
- and
- steering the movement apparatus based on visual information from sensors coupled to the housing.
