Claims20
A method of treating or preventing pain in a subject, the method comprising administering to the subject a composition comprising:
- i. hyaluronic acid, a salt of a hyaluronic acid or a mixture thereof;
- and
- ii. a copper ion complex or a mixture of copper ion complexes obtained by a process comprising:
- a) contacting copper having a specific surface area of from about 0.1 m2/kg to about 2 m2/kg, or in the form of particles having a bulk density of between about 0.2 and about 8.0 g/cm3 with a chelating agent in solid form;
- and
- b) while the copper is in contact with the chelating agent, contacting the copper and chelating agent with an oxidising agent, to form the copper ion complex or mixture of copper ion complexes.

A method of treating or preventing pain in a subject, the method comprising administering to the subject a composition comprising:
- i. hyaluronic acid, a salt of a hyaluronic acid or a mixture thereof;
- and
- ii. a copper ion complex or mixture of copper ion complexes comprising copper coordinated to a ligand of Formula (I) or Formula (II) or Formula (VI)
- wherein
- R1 is H and R2 is H or OH, or R1 and R2 together with the carbon atom to which they are attached form a carbonyl (C═O);
- R3 is H and R4 is H or OH, or R3 and R4 together with the carbon atom to which they are attached form a carbonyl (C═O);
- R5 is —CH(OR7)CH2OR7 or —CH2CO2R7 and R6 is absent or H, or R5 is H and R6 is —CH(OR7)CH2OR7 or —CH2CO2R7;
- and
- each R7 is independently absent or H;
- or a salt thereof, tautomer thereof or polymer thereof.

Use of the components:
- i. hyaluronic acid, a salt of a hyaluronic acid or a mixture thereof;
- and
- ii. a copper ion complex or mixture of copper ion complexes obtained by a process comprising:
- (a) contacting copper having a specific surface area of from about 0.1 m2/kg to about 2 m2/kg, or in the form of particles having a bulk density of between about 0.2 and about 8.0 g/cm3 with a chelating agent in solid form;
- and
- (b) while the copper is in contact with the chelating agent, contacting the copper and chelating agent with an oxidising agent, to form the copper ion complex or mixture of copper ion complexes, in the manufacture of a medicament for the treatment or prevention of pain.

Use of the components:
- i. hyaluronic acid, a salt of a hyaluronic acid or a mixture thereof;
- and
- ii. a copper ion complex or mixture of copper ion complexes comprising copper coordinated to a ligand of Formula (I) or Formula (II) or Formula (VI)
- wherein
- R1 is H and R2 is H or OH, or R1 and R2 together with the carbon atom to which they are attached form a carbonyl (C═O);
- R3 is H and R4 is H or OH, or R3 and R4 together with the carbon atom to which they are attached form a carbonyl (C═O);
- R5 is —CH(OR7)CH2OR7 or —CH2CO2R7 and R6 is absent or H, or R5 is H and R6 is —CH(OR7)CH2OR7 or —CH2CO2R7;
- and
- each R7 is independently absent or H;
- or a salt thereof, tautomer thereof or polymer thereof,
- in the manufacture of a medicament for the treatment or prevention of pain.

A method of treating or preventing pain in a subject, the method comprising co-administering to the subject a composition comprising:
- (i) hyaluronic acid, a salt of a hyaluronic acid or a mixture thereof;
- and
- (ii) a copper ion complex or a mixture of copper ion complexes obtained by a process comprising:
- (a) contacting copper having a specific surface area of from about 0.1 m2/kg to about 2 m2/kg, or in the form of particles having a bulk density of between about 0.2 and about 8.0 g/cm3 with a chelating agent in solid form;
- and
- (b) while the copper is in contact with the chelating agent, contacting the copper and chelating agent with an oxidising agent, to form the copper ion complex or mixture of copper ion complexes, and
- (iii) an opioid, to thereby treat or prevent pain in the subject.
