A method of selecting a subject for treatment of a hearing disorder or a symptom of a hearing disorder, comprising the steps of:
- a) administering to the subject a test agent comprising an L-type calcium channel blocker;
- b) assessing whether the subject is responsive to the test agent;
- and
- c) selecting the subject for administration of a pharmaceutical composition, if the subject is responsive to the test agent
- wherein the pharmaceutical composition comprises:
- i) a first agent comprising a first L-type calcium channel blocker;
- and
- ii) a second agent comprising one or more agents selected from the group consisting of potassium channel openers, sodium channel blockers, gamma-aminobutyric acid type A (GABAA) receptor positive allosteric modulators, dopamine receptor antagonists, anticonvulsnts and serotonin antagonist and reuptake inhibiters (SARIs).
- The subject is considered responsive to the test agent if one or more effects of the test agent are detected in the subject after administration of the test agent. The effects of the test agent include, but are not limited to a change of auditory and vestibular evoked potentials, a change of hearing thresholds, a change of tinnitus or vertigo testing scores, a change of life quality.
