Abstract
Proposed are schemes, solutions, concepts, designs, methods and systems pertaining to aiding assessment of the fit of an oral appliance for a subject (i.e. user). Embodiments proposed assessing fit based on the mechanical response of the oral appliance to a mechanical stimulus applied to the oral appliance. In this way, an indication or measure of fit of the oral appliance to the subject may be obtained.
Claims17
A system for assessing the fit of an oral appliance being worn by a subject, the system comprising:
- a sensor unit configured to measure a mechanical response of the oral appliance to a mechanical stimulus applied to the oral appliance;
- a processor arrangement configured to compare the measured mechanical response with a predetermined threshold value;
- and determine a fit value describing the fit of the oral appliance to the subject based on the comparison result;
- and
- an output interface configured to output an instruction for prompting the subject to provide the mechanical stimulus to the oral appliance, wherein the instruction comprises guidance instructing the subject to perform a predetermined jaw movement or pose.

A method for assessing the fit of an oral appliance being worn by a subject, the method comprising:
- measuring a mechanical response of the oral appliance to a mechanical stimulus;
- and
- analysing the measured mechanical response to determine a fit value describing the fit of the oral appliance to the subject.
