In a wound-field rotating electric machine, a rotor includes a rotor core having main pole portions each protruding in a radial direction and a field coil wound on the main pole portions. The field coil has a first coil section and a second coil section that are connected in series with each other. Each of the first and second coil sections is wound on all of the main pole portions such that the first coil section is located on a side closer to a stator in the radial direction, whereas the second coil section is located on a side farther from the stator in the radial direction. The second coil section has a greater number of turns than the first coil section. An electrical conductor wire used for the second coil section has a smaller conductor cross-sectional area than an electrical conductor wire used for the first coil section.
