Abstract
The present disclosure relates to a negative electrode and a process for the preparation thereof. The negative electrode comprises a bismuth-coated current collector; and a negative electrode active material having an electrode potential ranging from −1.4V to −0.7V (vs. Mercury/mercuric oxide reference electrode).

A negative electrode comprising:
- a. a bismuth-coated current collector;
- and
- b. a negative electrode active material having an electrode potential ranging from −1.4V to −0.7V (vs. Mercury/Mercuric Oxide reference electrode).
A process for preparing a negative electrode comprising the steps of:
- a. Providing a current collector;
- b. Coating the current collector with bismuth or a bismuth-based mixture or alloy to obtain a bismuth-coated current collector;
- and
- c. Assembling the bismuth-coated current collector with a negative electrode active material having an electrode potential ranging from −1.4V to −0.7V (vs. MMO reference electrode) to provide a negative electrode.
