Abstract
Various embodiments of systems and methods for direct depositing funds (e.g., consumer coin value, paper cash value, etc.) into an account at a bank or other financial institution are disclosed herein. In some embodiments, the systems and methods described herein enable a consumer to pour a batch of loose coins into a coin counting kiosk and have the coin value deposited directly into one of the consumer's accounts at a financial institution (e.g., a debit card account, credit card account, savings account, checking account, etc.) by swiping their bank card through (or inserting their bank card into) a card reader at the kiosk and selecting the desired transaction.

A method for depositing a value of funds into a bank account, the method comprising:
- receiving funds from a user via a funds input region of a consumer-operated kiosk, wherein the funds input region comprises a tray configured to receive coins and a bill acceptor configured to receive paper bills, and wherein the funds received from the user include coins and/or paper bills;
- determining a first value associated with the funds received from the user via a funds counting portion of the consumer-operated kiosk, wherein the funds counting portion comprises (I) a coin discriminator configured to discriminate the coins received at the tray and count a total value of the coins and (I) a bill counter configured to discriminate the paper bills received at the bill acceptor and count a total value of the paper bills;
- reading information from a card submitted by the user via a card reader of the consumer-operated kiosk, the card being associated with a financial institution and a network;
- based on the information read from the card, identifying the financial institution;
- and
- without receiving a unique identification code of the user and in response to identifying the financial institution, initiating a deposit of a second value of funds in the bank account at the financial institution, wherein the second value of funds is (a) equal to the first value of funds, or (b) less than the first value of funds by an amount associated with a user fee, and wherein the second value of funds is available to the user via the bank account on the same day as the deposit,
- wherein at least partially in response to the second value of funds being deposited in the bank account, the network transfers a third value of funds equal to the first value or the second value to the financial institution, and a sponsor bank transfers a fourth value of funds equal to the third value of funds to the network.
A method for depositing a value of funds into a bank account, the method comprising:
- receiving funds from a user via a funds input region of a consumer-operated kiosk, wherein the funds input region comprises a tray configured to receive coins and a bill acceptor configured to receive paper bills, and wherein the funds received include coins and/or paper bills;
- determining a first value associated with the funds received from the user via a funds counting portion of the consumer-operated kiosk, wherein the funds counting portion comprises (i) a coin discriminator configured to discriminate the coins received at the tray and count a total value of the coins, and (ii) a bill counter configured to discriminate the paper bills received at the bill acceptor and count a total value of the paper bills;
- reading information from a card submitted by the user via a card reader of the consumer-operated kiosk, the information including a Bank Identification Number (BIN) associated with a financial institution, and a bank account number of a bank account of the user at the financial institution;
- and
- without receiving a unique identification code of the user, initiating a deposit of a second value of funds in the bank account at the financial institution, wherein the second value of funds is (a) equal to the first value of funds, or (b) less than the first value of funds by an amount associated with a user fee, and wherein the second value of funds is available to the user via the bank account on a same day the funds are received at the consumer-operated kiosk.
A system for depositing a value of funds into a bank account, the system comprising:
- a consumer-operated kiosk comprising
- a funds input portion for receiving coins and paper bills, wherein the funds input portion comprises a tray configured to receive the coins and a bill acceptor configured to receive the paper bills,
- a funds counting portion for determining a first value of the coins and the paper bills received at the funds input portion, wherein the funds counting portion comprises
- a coin discriminator configured to discriminate the coins received at the tray and count a total value of the coins, and
- a bill counter configured to discriminate the paper bills received at the bill acceptor and count a total value of the paper bills;
- and
- a card reader configured to read information from a bank card inserted into the card reader, the information including a Bank Identification Number (BIN) associated with a financial institution, and a bank account number of a bank account of the user at the financial institution, and
- a communication facility configured to transmit the first value, the BIN, and the bank account number without receiving a unique identification code of the user;
- and
- a computing system operably associated with the consumer-operated kiosk, the computing system having a memory and one or more processors, the memory storing instructions that, when executed by the one or more processors at least partially in response to the consumer-operated kiosk transmitting the first value, the BIN and, the bank account number, cause the computing system to:
- receive the first value, the BIN, and the bank account number from the consumer-operated kiosk;
- identify the financial institution associated with the BIN;
- and
- initiate a deposit of a second value of funds in the bank account at the financial institution, wherein the second value of funds is (a) equal to the first value of funds, or (b) less than the first value of funds by an amount associated with a user fee, and wherein the second value of funds is available to the user via the bank account on the same day the funds are received at the kiosk.
