Embodiments provide for testing a user interface of an application across multiple, evolving versions of the application and across multiple different platforms. Testing a user interface of an application can comprise rendering the user interface through a browser application and executing a re-coder plugin of the browser application. Browser events related to the rendered user interface can be detected through the re-coder plugin. The detected browser events can be recorded into a test script through the re-coder plugin. Recording the browser events into the test script can comprise determining, for each browser event, a locator type for an element based on defined prioritization and ignore-lists of the user interface related to the browser event. A locator of the determined locator type for the browser event can be generated for each browser event with respective API calls and network logs and the test script can be generated using the generated.
