Abstract
Disclosed are compositions and methods for determining aberrant cardiac function or a predisposition to aberrant cardiac function, said method comprising detecting a fragment of βII spectrin associated with aberrant cardiac function or a predisposition to aberrant cardiac function in a sample derived from a subject, wherein the detection is indicative of aberrant cardiac function in the subject.

A composition comprising an antibody specific for SBP50,60,75.
A method for determining a candidate compound for the treatment of a disease or disorder associated with a fragment of βII spectrin, said method comprising:
- administering a candidate compound to an animal or cell comprising or expressing full-length βII spectrin while detecting a specific fragment of βII spectrin, and determining a change in levels of the fragment of βII spectrin in said cell or animal by monitoring levels of the fragment of βII spectrin both before and after the candidate compound is administered, wherein a decreased level of the fragment of βII spectrin indicates that the compound is a candidate compound for the treatment of the disease or disorder associated with the fragment of βII spectrin.
A kit comprising an antibody for detecting a fragment of βII spectrin.
