Abstract
Disclosed are devices, systems and methods for breaching a structure to create access into or past the structure. In various embodiments, the disclosed breacher devices include specialized casing and mechanisms for their safe and adaptable assembly, packaging, and deployment for a variety of commercial and military applications, including the rescue trapped individuals in or near a breached structure and/or controlled demolition of the structure. In some aspects, the disclosed breacher devices are modular and customizable based on new software-based design and fabrication control methods for computational ballistic design.
Claims20
A breaching device, comprising:
- a charge body configured to shape and to contain an explosive charge material, the charge body comprising a bottom base and a top lid coupled to the bottom base, the bottom base having an interior cavity surrounded by at least one wall, and the top lid having a shaping portion comprising a protruding ledge that spans at least a portion of a length of the top lid and is structured to have an apex at a protruding-most portion of the protruding ledge to cut at least a portion of a bulk explosive material into the explosive charge material to be contained within the charge body;
- and
- a tamp liner contained within the charge body and configured to provide a tamp for the explosive charge material during an explosion of the breaching device.
A breaching device, comprising:
- a charge body configured to shape and to contain an explosive charge material, the charge body comprising a bottom base and a top lid coupled to the bottom base, the bottom base having an interior cavity surrounded by at least one wall, and the top lid having a shaping portion comprising a protruding ledge that spans at least a portion of a length of the top lid and is structured to have an apex at a protruding-most portion of the protruding ledge to cut at least a portion of a bulk explosive material into the explosive charge material to be contained within the charge body;
- and
- a linear or bi-linear shape liner contained within the charge body and configured to provide a standoff and angled shape for maximizing blast efficiency during an explosion of the breaching device.
A breaching device, comprising:
- a charge body comprising a base and a lid to provide a housing for an explosive charge material;
- a protrusion structure coupled to a portion of at least one of the base or the lid and configured to shape at least a portion of a bulk explosive material into the explosive charge material;
- and
- a liner component, wherein the liner component includes at least one of a tamp liner to tamp an explosion of the explosive charge material when exploding the breaching device, or a linear or bi-linear shape liner to be contained within the charge body and configured to provide a standoff and angled shape for maximizing blast efficiency during an explosion of the breaching device.
