Abstract
Methods of coupling a second pipe to a first pipe are disclosed herein, which methods may include: providing a pipe guide assembly that includes: a deck; a first arm; a second arm; a first housing coupled to the first arm; a second housing coupled to the second arm; a plate rotatably coupled to the first housing and the second housing, the plate having a throat; and a piston; providing a power tong table assembly that includes: a table; a first leg; a second leg; a third leg; a fourth leg; and disposing a portion of the second pipe in the throat of the plate and between the first housing and the second housing; causing the first housing, the second housing, and the plate to move towards the first pipe; and rotating the second pipe using a power tong assembly.
Claims20
A power tong table assembly for supporting a power tong assembly to connect or disconnect a casing pipe, comprising:
- a deck having an upper deck surface and a lower deck surface;
- a table disposed above the deck and having an upper table surface and a lower table surface;
- a first leg having a first end pivotably coupled to a first portion of the upper deck surface and a second end pivotably coupled to a first portion of the lower table surface;
- a second leg having a first end pivotably coupled to a second portion of the upper deck surface and a second end pivotably coupled to a second portion of the lower table surface;
- a third leg having a first end pivotably coupled to a third portion of the upper deck surface and a second end pivotably coupled to a third portion of the lower table surface;
- a fourth leg having a first end pivotably coupled to a fourth portion of the upper deck surface and a second end pivotably coupled to a fourth portion of the lower table surface;
- a telescopic piston having a first piston end pivotably coupled to the deck and a second piston end pivotably coupled to the table;
- and
- a brace having first brace end pivotably coupled to a fifth portion of the upper deck surface and a second brace end disposed above the table, wherein the second brace end is capable of being abutted by a rear portion of the power tong assembly.
A power tong table assembly for supporting a power tong assembly to connect or disconnect a casing pipe, comprising:
- a deck;
- a table disposed above the deck, the table having a first groove disposed therethrough and second groove disposed therethrough;
- a first leg pivotably coupled to the deck and pivotably coupled to the table;
- a second leg pivotably coupled to the deck and pivotably coupled to the table;
- a third leg pivotably coupled to the deck and pivotably coupled to the table;
- a fourth leg pivotably coupled to the deck and pivotably coupled to the table;
- a telescopic piston pivotably coupled to the deck and pivotably coupled to the table;
- a first brace pivotably coupled to the deck, the first brace having a first brace end extending through the first groove, wherein the first brace end is capable of being abutted by a rear portion of the power tong assembly;
- a second brace pivotably coupled to the deck, the second brace having a second brace end extending through the second groove, wherein the second brace end is capable of being abutted by the rear portion of the power tong assembly;
- and
- a crossbar coupled to the first brace and the second brace.
A method of connecting or disconnecting a casing pipe with a power tong assembly, comprising:
- providing a power tong table assembly that comprises;
- a deck;
- a table disposed above the deck, the table having a throat;
- a first leg pivotably coupled to the deck and pivotably coupled to the table;
- a second leg pivotably coupled to the deck and pivotably coupled to the table;
- a third leg pivotably coupled to the deck and pivotably coupled to the table;
- a fourth leg coupled to a fourth portion of the deck and pivotably coupled to the table;
- a telescopic piston pivotably coupled to the deck and the table;
- and
- a brace having a first brace end pivotably coupled to deck surface and a second brace end disposed above the table;
- disposing the power tong assembly on the table, wherein a rear portion of the power tong assembly is disposed adjacent to the brace;
- receiving the casing pipe in the throat of the table;
- extending the telescopic piston to cause the table to move and to cause the telescopic piston, the first leg, the second leg, the third leg, and the fourth leg to pivot relative to the table;
- rotating the casing pipe with the power tong assembly;
- and
- abutting the brace with the rear portion of the power tong assembly.
