Abstract
Described herein are organic ion plastic crystals (OIPCs) comprising extended viologen salts. In one aspect, OIPCs can C1 be used in solid state batteries, supercapacitors, solar cells, or perovskite photovoltaic cells.

A solid-state electrolyte comprising:
- a viologen salt of formula (I)
- wherein:
- ΘX1 and ΘX2 are each independently
- ΘBF4, ΘPF6, ΘBr, ΘCl, or
- R1 and R2 are each independently C4-20alkyl or
- where n is 0 to 2;
- R9, at each occurrence, is independently C1-4alkyl, C1-2haloalkyl, —OC1-4alkyl, —OC1-2haloalkyl, halogen, —NO2, or —CN;
- and
- R11, at each occurrence, is independently C1-4alkyl, C1-2haloalkyl, —OC1-4alkyl, —OC1-2haloalkyl, halogen, —NO2, or —CN.

- a cathode;
- an anode;
- a separator;
