Abstract
The present disclosure is directed to a gypsum panel and a method of making such gypsum panel. The gypsum panel may include a water repellent composition comprising a water repellent additive. The water repellent additive may comprise a siloxane. Further, the water repellent additive may be sheared at a high shear rate, such as a shear rate of 8,500 rpm or more.

A gypsum panel comprising:
- a gypsum core, the gypsum core comprising gypsum;
- a water repellent composition, the water repellent composition comprising a water repellent additive, the water repellent additive comprising a siloxane, the water repellent additive having been subjected to a shear rate of about 5,000 rpm or more;
- and
- a first facing material and a second facing material;
- wherein the gypsum core has a concentration gradient of the water repellent additive over a portion of the thickness of the gypsum core.

A gypsum panel comprising:
- a gypsum core, the gypsum core comprising gypsum;
- a water repellent composition, the water repellent composition comprising a water repellent additive, the water repellent additive comprising a siloxane, the gypsum core having a two-hour absorption of water of about 5% or less when tested in accordance with ASTM C1396-17;
- and
- a first facing material and a second facing material;
- wherein the gypsum core has a concentration gradient of the water repellent additive over a portion of the thickness of the gypsum core.

A method for making a gypsum panel comprising:
- providing a first facing material;
- depositing a gypsum slurry comprising stucco and water onto the first facing material, the gypsum slurry forming a gypsum core;
- providing a second facing material on the gypsum slurry;
- and
- allowing the stucco to convert to calcium sulfate dihydrate;
- wherein the gypsum panel comprises a water repellent composition, the water repellent composition comprising a water repellent additive, the water repellent additive comprising a siloxane, the water repellent additive having been subjected to a shear rate of about 5,000 rpm or more.
