Abstract
A water softener or filtration system having a sanitization loop configured for active recirculation of a sanitizing solution through the treatment tank when the tank is offline and in need of cleaning. The sanitization loop is a closed loop that actively pumps a sanitizing solution through the tank to disrupt biofilms that may have formed on the media in the tank, thereby reducing the risk of legionella and pathogen growth.
Claims4
A method for sanitizing a water softener or filtration system, comprising:
- (a) providing a water softener or filtration system comprising a media containing water treatment tank having an online mode in which the tank receives source water and provides treated output water to a system exit line for downstream use;
- (b) providing a sanitization loop for the water treatment tank, the loop comprising a source of a sanitizing solution and a pump for circulating the sanitizing solution through the tank;
- (c) placing the water treatment tank into a sanitizing mode in which the tank is taken offline;
- (d) while in the sanitizing mode (c), recirculating the sanitizing solution through the tank with the pump for a predetermined duration;
- (e) after the predetermined duration, returning the tank to the online mode.
