Hinged connector for elevator suspension member

An assembly comprising:

• a connector comprising a first body portion and a second body portion selectively moveable relative to the first body portion between an open position and a closed position;
• a suspension member extending along a center axis and comprising a plurality of tension members encased in a jacket, the suspension member having one end received within the connector when in the closed position;
• at least one metal contact supported by one of the first body portion and the second body portion;
• a plurality of openings formed within one of the first body portion and the second body portion;
• and
• a plurality of metal fasteners selectively insertable within the plurality of openings, wherein the at least one metal contact engages one tension member of an elevator suspension member and each metal fastener contacts another tension member to establish electrically conductive connections with the plurality of tension members when the second body portion is in the closed position.

A method comprising:

• forming an elevator connector by attaching a first body portion to a second body portion with at least one hinge;
• embedding at least a first metal contact and a second metal contact in one of the first body portion and the second body portion, the first metal contact and the second metal contact each being configured to contact at least one tension member of an elevator suspension member;
• and
• forming a plurality of openings within one of the first body portion and the second body portion that are each configured to receive a metal fastener that is engageable with another tension member of the elevator suspension member.
