Abstract

An assembly for use with a clutch that includes a stator, a translator having a permanent magnet, a first ferromagnetic ring, and a second ferromagnetic ring. The first ferromagnetic ring includes a having a side surface adjacent to the permanent magnet and the second ferromagnetic ring having a side surface adjacent to the permanent magnet. A side of the first ferromagnetic ring slopes radially wherein the mass distribution of the first ferromagnetic ring increases closer to the stator and a side of the second ferromagnetic ring slopes radially wherein the mass distribution of the second ferromagnetic ring increases closer to the stator. The clutch may also include a first coupling member, a second coupling member, and a plurality of locking members that transmit torque between the first coupling member and the second coupling member.

Dependent claims

An assembly for use with a clutch comprising:

a stator;
a translator having a permanent magnet, a first ferromagnetic ring, and a second ferromagnetic ring;
the first ferromagnetic ring includes a first peripheral surface, a second peripheral surface, a first side surface, and a second side surface, the first and second peripheral surfaces bounded by the first and second side surfaces, the first side surface adjacent to the permanent magnet and the first peripheral surface closer to the stator than the second peripheral surface;
the second ferromagnetic ring includes a first peripheral surface, a second peripheral surface, a first side surface and a second side surface, the first and second peripheral surfaces bounded by the first and second side surfaces, the first side surface adjacent to the permanent magnet and the first peripheral surface closer to the stator than the second peripheral surface;
the second side surface of the first ferromagnetic ring slopes radially wherein the mass distribution of the first ferromagnetic ring increases closer to the stator;
and
the second side surface of the second ferromagnetic ring slopes radially wherein the mass distribution of the second ferromagnetic ring increases closer to the stator.
