A device for antiseptically maintaining a patient fluid line access valve, the device comprising:
- a syringe, comprising a nozzle having a length;
- a cap coupled to the syringe, comprising:
- a first receptacle being formed by a first inner wall and a first sidewall, wherein the first inner wall is a first flat surface that forms a full circle at a first end of the first receptacle, the first sidewall extending from the first inner wall to a second end of the first receptacle, the second end of the first receptacle forming an opening of the first receptacle, and wherein the first sidewall has a circular cross-sectional shape between the first inner wall and the second end of the first receptacle, wherein a diameter of the circular cross-sectional shape of the first sidewall along the length of the nozzle substantially matches a diameter of the nozzle of the syringe along the length of the nozzle such that the nozzle is inserted into the first receptacle through the opening of the first receptacle when the cap is coupled to the syringe;
- a second receptacle opposite the first receptacle, the second receptacle being formed by a second inner wall and a second sidewall, wherein the second inner wall is at a first end of the second receptacle, the second sidewall extending from the second inner wall to a second end of the second receptacle, the second end forming an opening of the second receptacle, the second end of the second receptacle being positioned at a first distance from the second inner wall, and wherein the second sidewall has a circular cross-sectional shape between the second inner wall and the second end of the second receptacle, wherein a diameter of the circular cross-sectional shape of the second sidewall remains substantially the same from the second inner wall to a second distance from the second inner wall, the second distance being less than the first distance, wherein the second inner wall comprises a flare at the second distance;
- and
- a first pad seated within the second receptacle, the first pad having an inner surface, a side surface and an outer surface, wherein the inner surface contacts the second inner wall, wherein the side surface has a circular cross-sectional shape from the inner surface to the outer surface that corresponds with the circular cross-sectional shape of the second sidewall, wherein the outer surface comprises a planar circular surface, wherein the outer surface is positioned at a third distance from the second inner wall, wherein the circular cross-sectional shape of the side surface from the inner surface to the outer surface has a diameter substantially matching the diameter of the circular cross-sectional shape of the second sidewall along the third distance, the third distance being less than the first distance, wherein the outer surface is oriented towards the opening of the second receptacle such that the planar circular surface is configured to contact and clean an access port when the access port is inserted into the opening of the second receptacle, wherein the first pad comprises an antimicrobial solution.
