Abstract
Non-pharmaceutical methods of treating the symptoms of anxiety and depression are described. The method includes providing a person with stimuli include visual and/or auditory stimuli which are pulsed at the rate of various types of brain waves. The use of the method greatly lessens various symptoms of anxiety and depression, including one or more of pain, anxiety, depression, and problems sleeping.

1-31. (canceled)
A device, comprising:
- a first stimulus output source;
- a second stimulus output source;
- and
- a biometric sensor;
- wherein the device is configured to perform operations comprising:
- emitting a first series of first stimuli via the first stimulus output source and a second series of stimuli via the second stimulus output source, wherein the emitting comprises bilaterally alternating the first series of first stimuli with the second series of one or more second stimuli;
- measuring, via the biometric sensor, a plurality of biometric values corresponding to a user of the device;
- calculating a plurality of biometric variability values using the plurality of biometric values corresponding to the user, including first and second biometric variability values respectively corresponding to a first time period and a second time period that is later than the first time period;
- calculating a change in the plurality of biometric variability values based on at least the first and second biometric variability values;
- determining a state of the user based on the calculated change in the plurality of biometric variability values, wherein the state of the user is determined to comprise a first state responsive to the calculated change being positive and wherein the state of the user is determined to comprise a second state responsive to the calculated change being negative;
- and
- modifying an output of at least one of the first stimulus output source or the second stimulus output source based on the determined state of the user, wherein the modified output differs from a previous output of at least the first or second stimulus output sources in at least one of an intensity of the output or a duration of time of the output.
