The present disclosure describes dedicated consumable sets for use with syringe pumps. A dedicated consumable set for use with a syringe pump may include a housing configured to receive a flow rate sensor communicatively coupled to the syringe pump and configured to measure flow rate of an infusate, and an optional RFID tag fixedly coupled to the housing and configured to communicate information about the dedicated consumable set to the syringe pump. The flow rate sensor can be further configured to detect the presence of an occlusion and communicate detection of the occlusion to the syringe pump. Advantages of the present disclosure include improvements to syringe pump start-up time, syringe swap time, and syringe pump occlusion detection and resolution times.
